The short answer
Plan the route before the equipment
Understand hourly rates, fixed quotes, van size, access time, mileage, parking and packing costs for London man and van jobs.
- Hourly pricing works for small flexible jobs.
- Fixed quotes are better when inventory and access are clear.
- Parking and long walking distance can change job duration.
- Photos help prevent quote changes on move day.
The Main Pricing Factors
The biggest factors are van size, number of movers, loading time, travel distance, parking, stairs, lift access and whether packing is included.
A clear quote should explain what is included and what could change the final price.
Fixed Quote vs Hourly Rate
Hourly rates are simple for small moves and single-item deliveries. Fixed quotes are better when you want cost certainty.
For fixed pricing, movers need enough detail to understand the real size and access requirements of the job.

How to Avoid Price Surprises
Be honest about stairs, heavy items, parking distance and extra boxes. If the list changes, update the moving team before the day.
The easiest way to keep pricing clean is to send photos of everything that could affect loading time.

Frequently asked questions
It depends on the job. Hourly pricing suits small, simple moves where the time is easy to predict, such as a studio flat or a few items. A fixed price is usually better for larger moves once the inventory and access are clear, because you know the total before the day. Alpha Movers charges hourly by default, starting at £90 for two hours, and offers a fixed quote on request.
Anything that adds time increases a man and van quote. The most common causes are extra flights of stairs, a long walk between the door and the van, waiting time at either address, packing, dismantling furniture and parking problems. A bigger van or extra helpers also changes the price. Mention all of these when you ask for a quote so the estimate reflects the real job rather than a best case.
Yes. You can get a man and van quote from Alpha Movers on WhatsApp. Send both postcodes, photos of the items, the floor level at each address, whether there is a lift, parking details and your preferred date and time. Photos let us judge the van size and number of helpers much more accurately than a written list, so the quote is quicker and less likely to change.
